Ladies 1sts reach Top 4 in the All Ireland Club Championships
Written by Ros Lynch

After nearly 10 months of training the Ladies 1sts reached the business end of the season. The squad traveled to Lisnagarvey Hockey Club on Friday to play in the pool stages of the All Ireland Club Championships.

On Friday night a goal from Jean McDonnell secured a win against Munster Champions Cork Harlequins. Saturday saw Railway take on Pegasus the Irish Senior Cup holders. Railway were level pegging until 8 mins into the second half when Pegasus broke the dead lock and scored from a short corner. Pegasus showed their experience in the second half scoring 2 further opportunistic goals. Today the team were up against Armagh a young talented side for the North, Railway stared the 1st half with some of their best hockey of the tournament however it was disappointing only to score 1 goal through Sinead Dooley. Railway missed several chances and this allowed the young dangerous Armagh side to come back into the game.  A nail biting final 5 mins saw the girls come away with a draw which was enough for Railway to finish second in Pool 1,

Railway now play Loreto in the Semi Final on Saturday 24th May at 9.30am in UCD.

The Squad would like to thank the supporters who travelled to support them. over the weekend you all made a big difference.  Special thanks to Mick, Una, Graham, Dave, Siobhan, Tristan and Denise.
