Overview - Season Review - 2004 / 05
The fifths brought home the first silverware of the season as they romped away with Div 8 under the leadership of Jimmy Kelly. Only Trinity seconds troubled the mighty fifths but when they defeated the students 1-0 at home they were also looking strong favourites for the title.
A miserly defence of Jimmy Kelly, Eddie English, John Curley and Neil McQuillan ensured scoring opportunities were kept at a minimum. The young Mark English and Kevin Corcoron made solid contributions in their first years of senior hockey and helped bring the average age of the squad down.
The goals came courtesy of Dara Rothwell, Tom Stuart but it was Eddie English who was top scorer with 12 goals not many from open play but his set piece conversion rate was a key factor in the league success.
Neil McQuillan won player of the season not only for his strong performances but for all round committment week in and week out he was the unanamuous choice of his team mates.
