Season Review 2005-06

The 3rds season was a bit up and down this year. We started off very badly in the league winning only one game from our first 4, which proved valuable in the end. However we soon found form and by Christmas we were in contention for a promotion spot. We started off very well after Christmas beating Loreto 2 - 0 and did well in our two toughest matches drawing against both UCD and league leaders Avoca. In the end after a couple of double weekends which resulted in a some dropped points we ended up missing out on promotion to Div 5 by 3 points...         img_0651_a

Captain:       Zoe Coughlan
Coach: Mark Keating
League Placing:       3rd in Division 6
Cup Runs: 2nd round of Division 5/6 cup
Top Goal Scorer:  Minnie Douglas / Carol Mac Kenzie (8 goals)
Player of the year:      Caroline Brophy

Our cup run was quite short. We beat Navan in the first round 3 - 1 despite being the underdogs against this strong Division 5 side. But facing Newbridge in round 2 who hadn't dropped a single point all season was always going to be difficult and when you add that to the fact we were playing on their grit the odds were clearly stacked against us and we lost that match a whopping 4 - 0.

On a more positive note however we had fun and as a team we are looking forward to next year where we plan on wrapping the league up by Christmas! Many thanks to Mark for coaching us all year and to Mary Kirwan, Helen Johnston and Minnie Douglas for the extra coaching throughout the season.
