Season Review 2005-06

It was an exciting and successful start to the season for the 6ths...with our top goal scorer Jane Greer getting her very first hat-trick in the very first game, Railway 6ths winning 3-0 against Mercy Celts!   6s_v_7s_img_0699_a

Captain  Carly Cronin
Coach  Graham Chisholm
League Placing  4th place in Division 13
Cup Runs  2nd round of Division 11/12/13 Cup
Top Goal Scorer  Jane Greer (7 goals)
Player of the Year  Emer Gilligan

Our first round of the Cup was equally thrilling, knocking out UCD 7ths in a grueling and well-fought game, with another great goal from Jane. Unfortunately, we were drawn against our own Railway 5ths in the 2nd round, which put an end to our Cup hopes, but spurred them on...all the way to win the cup (with a little help from our own star defender Alena!).

We notched up convincing league wins at the end of 2005 against Dalkey and again against UCD…but then hit a slump, seemingly unable to score goals, and suffered 2 draws and 2 defeats in the wake. All season pressure has been on the Railway 6ths to finish above the 7ths in the league...and especially to claim a victory when we faced them in our hotly anticipated league match.  It was an exciting game with plenty of banter, we kept our game fast and wide and we looked to score several goals...but it was just the one from Hazel in the end that determined the outcome after a superb performance from captain and part-time goalie Kamani! 1-0 to Railway 6ths! Looking to secure every point available to us, our skill and determination shone through towards the end of our season and we comfortably won our last 3 games. Finishing as we started, the whole team had an impressive performance in our last league game against Weston, a 5-0 victory securing our place as 4th in the league. Roll on next year… and winning the league!
