The 4th's had another hugely successful year winning Division 9 and getting to the Cup final (only to be denied with less than 2 minutes to go).
This season saw the 4th's team change greatly from the previous season but with Mary and Grainne at the helm we were determined to go all the way and win the league two years in a row. The first game of the season, away to Newbridge, almost derailed our plan with our only league loss of the season. The following Saturday we were back into the swing of things and on our winning way. In the league we won 12 games, drew 5 and lost 1.
Roche, our resident and winning 'Clean Sheet' goalie was true to form every Saturday and was helped by a strong defence team, fast mid field and determined forwards. Our team was a mixture of individuals with varying ages starting with the youngest player in the club and ending with the oldest. Hilary put in a fine performance in a forward position and ended the season on a high, scoring a goal in the cup final to secure her win as our team and the club’s Top Goal Scorer! Gráinne braved the elements all through the season and provided much needed chit-chats on the sideline... reading the game superbly and often predicting the oppositions attack on us. But the winning formula has to have been the 'special' oranges delivered personally to each game by Irene.
We had many 'special' moments ... Michelle tying her laces while the game carried on around her ... Blaithin scoring that infamous flick (and Hilary trying to recapture the moment during with cup final) ... Hilary and Michelle singing prior to the Clontarf game ... Ruth - well Ruth just being Ruth!!! It was a pleasure to captain this group of girls ... and may I take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of them for a great year - I wonder can we do three in a row???
