Many new players were attracted to Railway Union this season and the first XI benefited from this influx with 5 new players entering the squad. Ciara O'Brien returned to Railway after 5 years at UCD, Isobel Joyce joined from Trinity, Sinead Walsh Joined from Loreto, Beth Maguire joined from UCD, Anna Wairpo joined from Gunniess. This addition of new players provided vital strength to the squad, strength that may have been lacking in recent years.
From a tentative start in the first league match versus Three Rock Ladies the squad grew rapidly in assurance. Progress in the league and cups was very steady and it became readily apparent that the squad was certainly pushing to challenge to break into the 'Big Three' in Leinster and upset the monopoly held by Loreto, Hermes and Old Alex. One pivotal game saw Old Alex snatch a point at home in a league encounter just before Christmas. But the manner of our display set down a marker that we were a top three side. This was subsequently achieved with several games 'in hand'.
Our top 3 finish in the Leinster League gained us a playoff against Cork Harlequins in the home leg we secured a 2-0 victory and lost 3-1 in the away leg. Karen Clarke slotting away a vital away goal to gain us entry into the Club Championships. As debutantes in the Club Championships we opened our campaign against Pegasus drawing 3-3 with them, loosing to Hermes and drawing with Randalstown to finish 3rd in the Championships.
Outside the province notice has also been posted of Railway Union's resurgence, crowned with the scalp of Pegasus in a hard fought Irish Senior Cup campaign. Indeed we lost narrowly to the eventual champions Hermes in the semi final.
