Summer Hockey returns to Railway Union

Summer Hockey times:

Friday 5th June 8pm

Friday 12th June 7.30pm

More dates to be confirmed... watch this page.

Please feel free to drop in to this mixed hockey session, it's open to all (even if you don't play hockey in Railway, or even play hockey at all!).

To help you keep track of which day the session is happening on each week I would like to add all interested parties to a Teamer sms text update list.

For those of you uninitiated in the ways of Summer Hockey, it is an informal mixed hockey knockabout for an hour or so followed by a glass or two of fizzy pop in the clubhouse (the bar is currently open on Friday evenings, by the way). We also like to encourage people to bring their friends along, whether they're novices looking to give the game a try, lapsed players, or players from other clubs.

If you would like to be kept informed of Summer Hockey activities over the coming months please send me a mail with your name and mobile number attached and I can add you to the sms text update list on Teamer.net.

Summer Hockey down the years has been great craic, so even if you can't make it every week, please keep track of the dates it's on and drop in when you can.

Regards,

Maurice Prendeville

Railway Ladies win the Leinster Senior League!!!
Written by Amy O Connell

Railway Union 1s claimed their first ever women's Leinster Senior League final in over 100 years of hockey as they got the three points they needed at Park Avenue last night.

For the history buffs this team is the ONLY TEAM EVER in the history of ladies hockey in Railway to win the Leinster title.  'The Railway and Steampacket Companies Irish Athletic and Social Union' (later known as Railway Union - thankfully!) was formed in 1904 and had soccer, rugby, men's hockey and athletics.  The club held an annual 'walk' (race) from Donnybrook to Bray to raise club funds (ladies section did this a few years ago - and we still maintain that connection!).  The ladies hockey club was established in 1919 (90 years ago - 90 years without a title!!) and the uniform was a navy dress with a rose pink necklace (yeah!! - no skins in those days).  The 1st XI entered the Leinster Senior league in 1942 and .... wait for it ..... 67 years later we win it!!! Has a bit of a grand slam ring about it.

Ye are legends ....  all of you ...  and will be in the annals of club history.

But of course we know that now you have achieved this title ... you are only getting started ..  with more titles to come over the next few years.  GO FOR IT!
